SACE is an export credit agency which insures and/or reinsures the risks to which Italian companies are exposed by their international transactions and foreign investments. SACE was established in 1977, following the enactment of Law 227/77, as the Special Export Credit Insurance Section of the National Insurance Institute. With Legislative Decree 143/98, it became the Institute for Foreign Trade Insurance Services, and subsequently a Public Economic Entity. In 2004, with Law 326/2003 (art. 6) it became Sace S.p.A. (effective January 1, 2004). SACE, which is wholly owned by the Italian Ministry of the Economy and Finance, offers a range of instruments for credit insurance, investment protection, the provision of caution money, financial security and factoring. The group has 25,000 Clients in 180 countries.
