Cartones America starts up Cali PM3 after major rebuilding
Cartones America PM3 has been successfully started up on June 2 2011 at Cali - Colombia, after a major rebuilding carried out by the Italian company Toscotec. The PM#3 produces test liner using recycled paper.
Cartones America is a leading, privately-owned, Andean Region manufacturer of containerboard, corrugated boxes, clay-coated paperboard, spiral tube board and specialty board packaging products. The Group traces its roots back to the 1950s in Cali, Colombia. In recent years the company has grown steadily, investing in operations in Venezuela (1993), Ecuador (1998), Peru (2000) and Chile (2006). CAME is in an important phase of its development and the project is aimed at helping CAME consolidate recent investments and realize the synergies to be achieved in its operations across the Andean Region.
The project aim was to reduce the energy cost and improve the efficiency of the paper machine and making it capable of higher production. This has been achieved by increasing significantly the dryness of the web after press section, and this part of the machine can now reach a new maximum operating speed of 900 mpm.
Toscotec scope of supply consisted of a new press section and the dryer section modification. The press design features an advanced Combi-press in first position, with a compact two nip solution, and a state of the art "TT Shoe-press" in second position.
The existing drying section, composed of 35 TT SD (Toscotec's signature steel dryer cylinders), is equipped with a new stabilizing system for improving machine runability.
With this new successful project and the Shoe Press installation, Toscotec shows its vocation for high technological products and confirms itself once more as a strategic partners for major rebuilding projects worldwide.
