Drying

Portfolio of Drying Concepts for Excellent Drying Efficiency and Runnability

Our drying concepts ensure wrinkle-free paper and reduce moisture with consistent CD profiles. They use steam-heated steel drying cylinders in direct contact with the wet sheet after the press section, efficiently evaporating water to produce curl-free, high-quality paper.

Drying Paper Web on Both Sides

Our efficient drying solution combining single- and double-tier dryer groups to enhance sheet quality, reduce curling, and optimize layout.

Key features:

  • Two-sided drying: prevents paper curl by evenly drying the web from both sides
  • Hybrid dryer configuration: combines single-tier groups in the front with double-tier groups in the rear for balanced performance
  • Compact design: achieves full drying capacity with reduced footprint in the dryer section
  • Enhanced drying efficiency: improves moisture control and sheet stability across a wide range of applications

High-speed Drying Technology

Our high-efficiency drying solution designed for maximum machine speeds, delivering crease-free web handling and compact layout.

Key features:

  • Single-tier dryer groups: drying cylinders arranged on top for streamlined web guidance and layout efficiency
  • Stabilizer roll system: drilled rolls suctioned via ProRelease+ or DuoStabilizers ensure crease-free web transport
  • Controlled web handling: web is securely fixed to the dryer fabric and guided cylinder-to-cylinder throughout drying
  • Optimized for speed: ideal for dryer sections operating at the highest production speeds

Key components

State-of-the-art Drying Technology

We have been producing steel dryers since the 1960s, with over 1,500 units installed. Steel offers clear advantages over cast iron, including higher heat transfer due to thinner shells and uniform surface temperature. The innovative TT SteelDryer (TTSD) design increases effective working width thanks to a shell welded directly to the head, while its ductile steel ensures maximum safety and avoids spontaneous breakages typical of cast iron. Manufactured with welded steel and bolt-on journals, TT SteelDryers allow easy maintenance and can be built to virtually any diameter or face length.

Key features:

  • Higher heat transfer coefficient: achieved through reduced shell thickness
  • Increased productivity: higher drying rates confirmed by field measurements
  • Lower weight: reduced building footprint and installation costs
  • Increased drying width: wider paper web on the same cylinder face length
  • Enhanced safety: ductile material eliminates the risk of spontaneous breakage
  • Customizable: dryer diameter according to customer needs
  • No risk of steam leakage: zero leakage between head and shell

Vacuum Roll for Enhanced Dryer Section Stability

Specialized roll solution designed to improve web control, runnability, and drying efficiency in single-tier dryer configurations. Vacuum-assisted web support stabilizes the paper web on the external felt of bottom cylinders during tail threading and production.

Key features:

  • Smooth operation: minimizes paper breaks and ensures consistent sheet handling at high speeds
  • Long-term durability: designed for reliability with minimal maintenance requirements
  • Smooth integration: compatible with TT SteelDryer and Stabilizer for complete drying solutions
  • Performance benefits: enhanced drying efficiency, improved sheet stability, and reduced downtime

Four-directional Cleaning System for Dryer Fabrics

Voith's advanced cleaning solution designed to eliminate fabric contamination in the dryer section, improving runnability and reducing fabric wear.

Key features:

  • Four-directional water jets: ensure full-surface contact for superior contaminant removal
  • Improved runnability: minimizes disruptions caused by contamination buildup
  • Enhanced cleaning efficiency: overcomes the limitations of conventional single-direction systems
  • Reliable performance: supports consistent operation and productivity in the dryer section
